Match Report

It was an afternoon to forget for Inverness Athletic yesterday in North Kessock as reigning Macleod & MacCallum North Caledonian League Champions Invergordon netted five times without reply to inflict a first League defeat of the season for Stuart Ross’s men.

Invergordon controlled the game from the off, pining the home side back and creating a number of opportunities to take the lead. Fortunately for Athletic, Invergordon were met with a resilient Ryan Macleod in the home goal as the ‘keeper kept his side in the contest for large periods of the first half.

Just before the half hour mark the visitors were in front. A floated free kick into the box was met by Blair Morrison at the back post who nodded the ball into the corner of the net.

Invergordon did not have to wait long to double their lead. Just five minutes later Jordan Knight drove into the box and guided a shot into the far corner of the net.

The afternoon went from bad to worse for the home side as just four minutes before the break Invergordon had a third. Jordan Knight once again left with too much space in the home box, danced his way round Macleod and rolled the ball into an empty net.

A much improved Athletic would come out for the second half, but despite that improvement the home side were still failing to trouble Ryan Slaney in the Invergordon goal.

With 60 minutes on the clock Invergordon had a fourth. Another free kick into the box was not dealt with and Jordan Knight was there to tap in for his hat trick.

Invergordon went on to round off the scoring on the 75th minute as Andrew Miller put the finishing touch on a sweeping counter attack.

An awful afternoon all in all for Athletic who will look to bounce back next weekend in Tain against an always tough St Duthus outfit.
