    Invergordon 3-0 Inverness Ath
    Recreation Grounds, Invergordon

Inverness Athletic Manager Shane Carling was left to rue his sides first half performance during the 3-0 defeat at Invergordon this afternoon.

Athletic trailed 3-0 at half time at Recreation Grounds courtesy of an Arron Christie brace and a Darren Goller strike, and although there was a big improvement in the second half, Carling says it was his teams poor start which cost them the chance to take something from the game.

He said: "It was a very poor first half from us. We started the game really badly and conceded three goals, granted 2 of them were cracking strikes but one of them was from our own mistakes.  Second half it was better but when you're trying to come back from 3-0 down it is difficult even though we fought until the end.

"You cannot afford to only turn up for 45 minutes. I cannot understand why we were so poor in the first half because the players were very confident after our pre season run. It is a tough one for me to work out.

"It was an opportunity for us to pick up where we left off in pre season but the first half performance has cost us. It wasn't a problem with team selection or formation, it was a problem with how the whole team started the game. We will go again this week, starting at training on Monday, as we get the squad ready for the Cup game next Saturday in Golspie.”

Athletic move onto next week where they travel to face Golspie Sutherland in the quarter final of the Football Times cup, with the winner facing Nairn County U20s who got the better of St Duthus today at Station Park, Nairn, winning on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
