Jock Mackay Memorial Cup, 2nd Round
Inverness Athletic v Nairn County U20s
    Inverness Royal Academy 4G, Inverness
    2.00pm

Inverness Athletic turn their attentions to cup action this weekend as they welcome Nairn County U20s to Inverness for the 2nd round of the Jock Mackay Memorial Cup.

Athletic will be looking for a vast improvement on last season’s outing in this competition, when they fell to a 5-4 defeat away to Halkirk in the first round, as they aim to book their place in the semi-final for the first time since 2017/18.

Saturday’s opponents are not strangers to Shane Carling's men, with the sides meeting twice before in pre season fixtures, Athletic winning each time by just a solitary goal. So the manager knows this will not be an easy afternoon for his players.

“The lads are looking forward to this game this weekend but know that it’s going to be a tough match. Nairn always work hard and give us good games so we will need to be at our best to get through to the next round. We are delighted to get some of our new faces into the squad for Saturday and hopefully they can help us book our place in the semi final.”

The manger will be without the services of Dean Allison, Ryan Macleod and Martin Bain. However, Shane Carling is able to welcome new signings Taylor Sutherland, Callum Gow and Dan Stephen into the squad. Ryan Dow, Ryan Hunter and Russell Macintyre all make welcome returns to the match day squad after missing last weekends game.
