Saturday 7th December
Football Times Cup Sponsored by Inverness Trophy Centre
Invergordon v Inverness Athletic
Recreation Grounds, Invergordon
1pm Kick off
It’s a break from Macleod and MacCallum League action this weekend for Jason Golabek’s side, as they make the short trip up the A9 to take on Invergordon in the Football Times Cup.
Inverness travel to Ross-shire for the second Saturday running, as they aim to put last weekend’s North Caledonian League defeat at the hands of St Duthus behind them and keep themselves in contention for qualification from the Football Times South Section. Athletic go into the game knowing that anything less than a win will see them eliminated from the competition with one League fixture remaining, an outcome that the Manager is looking to avoid,
“The tough games just keep coming. Last week I thought that we just ran out of steam. We could not have asked anymore of the players. Invergordon tomorrow will be another hard afternoon’s work. It’s never an easy place to go and get points but that’s exactly what we need to do if we are to stay in contention for qualification. The lads trained well this week and they know what I expect from them tomorrow.”
Golabek is will be without the services of a number of players for the trip north, Ryan Ingram, Martin Macdonald Ross Harrison and Dominick Edwards are all missing. Saturday’s game comes too soon for Calum Black as he continues his recovery from injury and Andrew Miller has been recalled to Strathspey Thistle. Athletic are able to welcome back Taylor Sutherland, Ben Hosie, Liam Downie and James Mackay into the match day squad. There are also places in the squad for new signings Andrew Simpson, Fraser Macdonald and Reece Armitt, with the latter two joining from Highland League outfit Clachnacuddin today, subject to SFA clearance.
